Exposing writer's straw-men case
Sunday November 13, 2011
JOHN KITTREDGE - Windsor

P - Arguments which use a Straw-Men method are not arguments at all
P - Mr. Kittle used a Straw-Men method for his argument
C - Mr. Kittle does not have an argument at all

Let me know if I set this argument up like the author has portrayed it. It seems logical that a straw man argument would have a non valid part to it, which could be seen as something that would void the whole thing entirely. But let's see what other people think in this huge blogging class.

  1. Without reading the origional article, the way John says "nuclear doom", it almost makes me feel like a slippery slope was established to make the straw man fallacy.

I think you have the argument set up right, though.

  2. Yes, your correct. It get's even worse. Slippery Slope. And what about Appeal to unqualified authority with "back fire effect", being that he defined the flaw in the person with a diagnosis.

  3. I believe that "not arguments at all" is an undistributed term that implies not a good argument rather than lack of one

it is further confusing because you state that infact this "not arguments at all" is an argument in the second premise

I think this needs some additional shaping of the argument before we delve into it further
